Posturing In The Void

Krishna Das – Ep. 74 – Posturing In The Void

This time on the Pilgrim Heart Podcast, Krishna Das talks about how we can approach spiritual practice in a way that does not shut ourselves out or leave us posturing in the void.

Descent Into The Lake of The Mind

Krishna Das shares stories about Hanuman and talks about the lessons these stories have to teach us. He looks at the unique power that the Ramayana has to engage Westerners with their heart. KD talks about working with the limitations of the mind when we begin the practice of chanting mantra.

Posturing In The Void  (15:15)

What can we do to make a positive change in our own communities and relationships? Krishna Das explores the path of inner work that reverberates out and begins to transform the world around us. He reminds us not to become so selfless in our want to make a better world for others that we shut out our own needs for justice, compassion and love. If we are not applying our practices to our interior life as we do them, then we are just ‘posturing in the void.’

“Help as many people as you can, but don’t forget your own happiness. The Buddha said that there is no one more deserving of compassion than ourselves – no one. If we don’t include ourselves in the world then we are making a mistake.” – Krishna Das

Letting Go of Our Programming (38:10)

How do we begin to re-write our mind’s programming? Krishna Das looks at the ways that spiritual practice allows us to see through this programming and regain control of our reactivity and clarity of mind. KD closes with a chant of the Hanuman Chalisa.

“That’s why we practice. So that we get a little bit of a vote when the program is running. Eventuallly we are able to let that thought go without avting on it. It is a process, one we need to commit to in terms of taking steps in those directions to help ourselves.” – Krishna Das
